"Now that I have your attention, I'd like to start off by explaining the Triwizard Tournament to you.
For those of you who are unaware, The Triwizard Tournament is a famous contest between the schools of Hogwarts, Durmstrang, and Beauxbatons. It originated some 700 years ago as a friendly competition between the three schools. Each school took turns hosting the Tournament, which took place every five years. Three champions - one from each school - were selected to compete against each other in a series of dangerous tasks designed to test the champions.
Due to a rising death toll, the Tournament was eventually disbanded. It made a famous comeback roughly thirty years ago, but I'm sure you're all aware of that story.
In recent years, however, the Ministry of Magic has been reviewing it and have come to the conclusion that, aside from the return of Voldemort, the last Tournament went quite well. They also decided that the skills needed to compete in such an event are vital to the education of young witches and wizards such as yourselves. So, they have decided it's time to give the Triwizard Tournament another go. As luck would have it, Hogwarts was given the honor of hosting the Tournament. This means that throughout the course of the Tournament, we shall be sharing our lovely school with the visitors from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons.
Rest assured that every possible precaution will be taken to ensure it remains free from any danger of fatality. While not every staff member may not agree on this, the Ministry is making it obligatory for us to take part in.
The delegations from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons will be arriving in October, and an impartial third party shall select the three champions on Halloween. I trust you will all do everything in your power to make our foreign guests feel welcome, as well as giving the Hogwarts champion your support when he or she is selected."
