"We all make choices, but in the end our choices make us." - Andrew Ryan, founder of Rapture.
Rapture has been reborn and has risen from the ashes, much like a phoenix to once again become a prosperous city. The year is 2011 and after a complete rebuild and overhaul of the rubble that was once the great city under the sea. Located within the Atlantic ocean and fueled from geothermal heat sucked from an underwater volcano the city is complete self sufficient and does not require any help from those who live up above.
It is a place built for artists, scientists, and engineers. For the man who is tired of government dictating what he can and cannot do, of people questioning one another’s morals. There are many different roles for people in Rapture, much as there is with any city. Be warned though, once you enter this self-proclaiming utopian city it is almost impossible to leave. To come to Rapture is to live a different life, to forget the parasites up above.
Now in it’s sixth year of operation Rapture has become a stable city with a few little knicks in it. There will always be crime, wherever anyone goes but it seems to be escalating as of late. Perhaps this has something to do with the noticeable strain between the upper and lower class? Junkies now lurk within the shadows of this paradise, addicted to a drug called ADAM that is used to alter an individual’s genetic code. They are nothing more than a pest problem, and the city views them as such.
What people won’t tell you about rapture is that it has deep, dark secrets. No one save for the man who decided to rebuild Rapture and a select few of his crew know exactly what state the city was in before it was rebuilt. Much of the research that was done back in the 1940’s has been saved, and reused in the newly built Rapture in order to help the city flow. The question is, will history repeat itself? And who exactly is the man who put so much into rebuilding an underwater city? Time will tell…
