Born as the youngest of three children to a man of working class isn't exactly the best life or best experience. Especially as a daughter of a working class man. Your only hope was to catch the eye of a man of nobility and hope that you've done enough to raise your status and the status of your family. Basil, although she was the youngest of three, their father showed clear favouritism and affection towards his eldest and male child. Basil's brother, Bartholomew, was their father's prodigy. Their father worked day and night in order to put Bartholomew through school, to hope that one day he could raise his family out of poverty and into nobility.
What no one expected was that Basil, of all children, was the one to do exactly that. From a very young age Basil was different. She was unlike her brother and sister in many ways, but it was the differences in them that set Basil up for the life she knew she would lead. Although her brother was the one who was educated extensively, Basil got the exact same education. Basil studied her brother's work and familiarized herself with politics, religion as well as many other subjects. She worked hard ever since she was a child, and as she grew into her skin it was very clear to both herself and others exactly who she would be.
Basil was always very selfish, she cared about herself and herself alone. To Basil, Basil came first. She was very snide, manipulative, deceiving, cunning and often her family wondered if she was unscrupulous.
As she grew into her skin it was apparent that although she had the knowledge to be involved, talk about and even contribute to most subjects, it wasn't her intelligence that got her where she was. It was all her virtues, it was what made her, her. Basil's a very posh young woman. She was very elegant, very poised and very proper. It was the mask that covered the monster pumping through her veins and filling her lungs with air that got her to where she worked so hard to get. It was the way she was able to look at a man in that way and have him at her mercy. If it was one thing Basil loved, it was power, and she'd do anything to get it.
Basil (Pronounced Bass-ill) The Great:
